THE MATCH MASTER LBR

The Match Master LBR represents my vision of what a Competition Long Barreled Revolver should be.

 

There has been a constant demand for a Smith & Wesson-Based revolver which is compliant with UK regulations since the ban of 1997. However, the law dictates that it is not permissible to convert any firearm which has been built as a Section 5 (firearm with less than 12” (300mm) barrel, and less than 24” (600mm) overall length) into a Section 1. As S&W had no 12” barrel models, and no plan to build one, it has not been possible until now. To build a UK-compliant revolver we needed to buy an “incomplete” firearm or a “Kit” of parts that had never been assembled.

 

Recent negotiations with S&W have lead to an agreement in principle to supply us with a UK-compliant base gun. However, the nature of the Chassis Kit means that we will always need to make custom barrels, and therefore there is unlikely to be any economic way to build a “standard” or “basic” model such as a 686.

 

As of September 2014, we are waiting on order acknowledgment for the first batch of 100 revolvers.

Due to Smith & Wesson declining to supply the frame kits, this project will be on hold until a suitable alternative can be found. It is our intention to produce the whole revolver from scratch in the UK but this will take some months to achieve. The prototype Match Master LBR shown here, and unveiled at the NRA Phoenix Meeting, has a simple philosophy - get as close to the feel, weight, and balance of a conventional Match Master PPC revolver as possible.

• 4oz (114g) removable barrel weight

• Sprung ball-lock to the crane for tight cylinder lock-up.

• Cylinder aligned, timed and tightened

• Cylinder chamfering for speed-loaders.

• Tuned double-action

• Adjustable trigger stop with rubber damper to cushion the over-travel at release to reduce trigger snatch.

• Aristocrat 3-position sight rib. With option of integral “weaver” rail.

• Hogue Rubber Monogrip

• Based on a model 686 L-Frame, 6-shot ,stainless steel, .38spl / .357 Magnum

• Weight : with stainless barrel weight 1820g, without weight 1700g ( vs. Match Master 3 6” 1675g)
